Performance engineering at Autobahn Bot is a constant balancing act between three competing priorities: Intelligence, Latency, and Token Efficiency.

This week, we successfully integrated the GLM-4.5-Air and AirX models into our production Orchestrator. Here's a breakdown of how we use smart routing to deliver a better developer experience.

The Three-Tier Protocol

We've moved away from a "one model for everything" approach. Our Orchestrator now routes requests across three distinct protocols:

1. The Assistant Protocol (GLM-4.5-Air) Used for the App Assistant. This model is optimized for high-speed conversation and intent detection. Result:* First-token latency dropped by 200ms. It feels like chatting with a human in real-time.

2. The Help Protocol (GLM-4.5-AirX) Used for the Help Button. This is our "low-latency specialist." It handles short, technical definitions with extreme efficiency. Result:* 60% reduction in token usage by using hyper-specific prompts.

3. The Creation Protocol (GLM-4.7) Reserved for the Main Chat and heavy code generation. When you need a full refactor or a new feature implementation, we bring in the "heavy hitter."

Why Routing Matters for You

For the user, this means two things: 1. Speed: The UI is more responsive. Simple questions get answered instantly. 2. Quota Longevity: By using smaller, faster models for simple tasks, we preserve your high-tier tokens for the complex architectural work where they matter most.

Continuous Optimization

We're already analyzing the telemetry from this rollout. Early data shows a 15% increase in user productivity simply because the "thought-to-response" loop is tighter.
